North Carolina Medicare Supplement Plans

Medicare is a federal program that provides individuals 65 and older with healthcare coverage. Medicare Part A and Part B are offered through the federal government and cover approximately 80% of medical costs. This coverage design leaves several significant gaps in coverage. Medicare Supplement Insurance plans provide coverage for these holes or gaps in coverage. Medicare Supplement plans are offered by private insurance companies but are regulated by the government.

Medicare Supplement plans do not have a network of doctors and hospitals. As Supplemental plans, the coverage is accepted at any doctor or hospital that accepts Original Medicare. Therefore, Medicare Supplement plans allow you the flexibility to choose your doctor as long as the doctor accepts Medicare, which is a key difference when compared to Medicare Advantage plans.

In North Carolina, the Medicare Supplement plans are standardized and labeled by letters A through N. The same-lettered plans do not vary in benefits between each insurance company. Therefore, a Plan G with one company will be the same coverage as a Plan G with a different company. However, the monthly rates are often different, and the insurance companies may add-on programs such as fitness and discount programs.

At NC Health Plans, we focus on educating newly eligible Medicare beneficiaries with the information needed to make smart decisions about Medicare plans. This starts with plan and price transparency from the top insurance carriers in North Carolina. Our website is designed to educate Medicare Supplement shoppers with information while comparing North Carolina’s leading Medicare insurance companies plans.
